About H.U.G.E. Today
Our Story
H.U.G.E. stands for helping unleash good emotions.
H.U.G.E. Today was established from a simple but powerful belief: people living with disability deserve the opportunity to live meaningful lives, have genuine choice and control, build independence and feel a sense of purpose and belonging.
We believe that a meaningful life is about more than having a place to live or receiving support. It is about having reasons to get up in the morning. It is about discovering what you enjoy, building relationships, developing confidence, contributing to your community and having opportunities to experience success.
Why H.U.G.E. Today was created
Through years of experience working alongside people with disability, we saw the difference that the right support can make.
We also saw that people can sometimes become defined by their disability, their diagnosis, their past experiences or the challenges they have faced. At H.U.G.E. Today, we want to look beyond those labels.
We want to know the person.
What makes them laugh?
What are they interested in?
What are they good at?
What would they like to learn?
Where do they feel comfortable?
What gives them confidence?
What would they like their life to look like?
These questions help us understand what is important to each person and how we can provide support that is genuinely individualised.

Supporting people to live, not just receive support
Our approach is centred around helping people develop the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to participate more fully in their own lives.
This can include developing everyday living skills, building routines, exploring interests, accessing the community, developing relationships, pursuing employment or education, managing responsibilities and working towards personal goals.
We understand that progress does not always happen quickly or in a straight line. Sometimes the most important changes are small ones—a person trying something new, making a decision for themselves, reconnecting with an interest, developing a routine or recognising that they are capable of something they once thought was impossible.
We celebrate those moments because they matter.
A recovery-focused approach
H.U.G.E. Today takes a recovery-focused and strengths-based approach to support.
We recognise that every person has strengths, abilities, experiences and potential. Our role is not to take over or make decisions for people. Our role is to provide the right level of support, encouragement and opportunity so each person can develop their own capacity and move towards the life they want.
We work alongside participants, their families, guardians, support networks and other professionals to understand what is important to the person and create practical opportunities for progress.
More than support — building a life
For us, independence does not necessarily mean doing everything alone.
It means having the opportunity to make decisions, express preferences, learn from experiences, take reasonable risks, develop skills and have the right support available when it is needed.
We want the people we support to have opportunities to do things, try things, learn things and be part of things.
Whether that means preparing a meal, going to the gym, finding employment, exploring a new hobby, building friendships, managing a household, catching public transport or simply discovering something that brings enjoyment to their day—these experiences can contribute to a greater sense of confidence, purpose and wellbeing.
Why “TODAY”?
Because life is happening TODAY.
We do not want people to spend years waiting for their life to begin.
There is always something that can be explored, learned, experienced or achieved today.
Sometimes it is a big goal. Sometimes it is simply getting out of bed, going for a walk, trying something different or having a positive interaction with another person.
Every day provides an opportunity for something good.
That is what H.U.G.E. Today is about.
Helping Unleash Good Emotions – TODAY.
Creating opportunities for people to discover what makes them feel connected, capable, valued and motivated—and supporting them to build a life that is meaningful to them.
