Supported Independent Living

More than a place to live. A place to build a life.

At H.U.G.E. TODAY, we believe Supported Independent Living is about much more than providing a person with somewhere to live and someone to assist them.

It is about creating a home where people can feel safe, respected and connected while developing the skills, confidence and independence to live a meaningful life.

Our Supported Independent Living services provide 24/7 support in a shared home environment for NDIS participants aged 18 and over.

We work alongside each person to understand what matters to them, what they want to achieve and what support will help them move towards greater independence.

What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living, commonly referred to as SIL, is an NDIS support designed for people who require assistance with daily living and developing the skills needed to live as independently as possible.

Depending on a person's individual needs, SIL may include support with:

  • Personal routines and self-care

  • Meal planning and preparation

  • Shopping and household tasks

  • Cleaning and laundry

  • Medication routines

  • Developing daily living skills

  • Managing routines and appointments

  • Building confidence and independence

  • Social and community participation

  • Developing relationships and connections

  • Exploring education, employment or volunteering

  • Maintaining a safe and stable home environment

The purpose of SIL is not simply to provide assistance with these activities. It is to support the person to develop and maintain their capacity to participate in their own life.

Support That Is Individual to You

There is no single version of SIL that works for everyone.

Every participant has different strengths, interests, experiences, support needs and goals.

Our support is therefore tailored around the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit into a predetermined program.

We take the time to understand:

Who are you?
What matters to you?
What do you enjoy?
What are you good at?
What would you like to learn?
What would you like your life to look like?

From there, we work together to identify practical opportunities to build skills, confidence, independence and participation.

Building Independence

Our aim is to support people to be as independent as possible while providing the level of assistance they require.

Sometimes that means providing direct support.

Sometimes it means prompting.

Sometimes it means stepping back and allowing the person to try.

We recognise that independence does not mean doing everything alone. It means having the opportunity, support and confidence to participate in decisions and activities that are important to you.

More Than the Everyday Tasks

Cooking dinner, doing the laundry or cleaning the house are important

parts of independent living.

But a meaningful life is about more than completing household tasks.

We also want to support participants to discover interests, develop

relationships, participate in their community, explore employment and education opportunities, build confidence and experience success.

We believe people should have reasons to get up in the morning.

That reason will be different for everyone.

For one person it may be work.

For another it may be seeing a friend, going fishing, attending the gym, caring for a pet, learning something new or simply having somewhere they enjoy going.

Our role is to help people discover what gives their life meaning.

Who We Support

H.U.G.E. TODAY provides SIL for NDIS participants aged 18 years and over who require support to live in a shared home environment.

We understand that some people may have experienced significant challenges in maintaining stable routines, developing independence, building relationships or participating in their community.

We take a thoughtful approach to referrals and consider the person's individual circumstances, support requirements, goals and compatibility with the existing household.

Finding the right fit matters.
